A calm, organized response can help protect the evidence and prevent additional losses. Start with the institutions that can take immediate action.

Contact your payment provider

Use the phone number on your bank card or the provider’s official website. Ask about fraud reporting, payment recall or dispute options. Record any reference numbers and deadlines.

Preserve the original records

Save receipts, statements, wallet transaction IDs and correspondence. Do not edit the originals. Make a separate chronology of dates, names and amounts.

Secure affected accounts

Change compromised passwords from a trusted device, enable multifactor authentication and contact the provider if someone else has access. Never give a supposed investigator remote access to your banking session.

Report and seek appropriate guidance

Report the incident to relevant local authorities. If you explore professional help, ask for a clear written scope and realistic limitations. Nobody can guarantee a recovery.
